Which are the best universities in India? 

India’s education system is rapidly expanding and there are thousands of schools, colleges, and universities. They are of different sizes, types, and specializations so this is the most challenging question for students who want to pursue study for higher education in colleges or universities. In India, there is a myriad of colleges and universities both in the private and public sectors. It is difficult to decide which one is the best. Earlier Best universities were decided by magazines, but now there is a methodology known as NIRF. 

What is NIRF?

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) is a method used by the Ministry of Education to rank institutes of India.  NIRF Categorizes Universities in India on some parameters which include Teaching, Graduation, Professional Practice, Resources, and Stakeholder perception. The NIRF ranking system helps students choose the best universities and it is the key decision criteria for taking admission in the university.

So, here I come with the list of the Best Universities in India.

  • Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru

Indian Institute of Science (IISc) is the university for higher education and research in engineering, management, design, and science. It is located in Bengaluru in Karnataka State. Locally it is known as “Tata Institute”.The campus of IISc Bangalore is spread across 371 acres of land, it has 45 academic departments which offer various Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses, including BSc, MTech, Ph.D., and others. It is at the 1st position in NIRF university Ranking 2022.

  • Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) is in New Delhi, India. It was named after India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, and was established in 1969. The University is understood for best faculties and research with emphasis on humanistic discipline and applied sciences. The academic departments of Jawaharlal Nehru University are divided into 20 Schools and Centres. The Nehru University received the Best University Award from the President of India in 2017. The campus of the university is spread over 1,300 acres. BHU is divided into six institutes and 14 faculties (streams) and approximately 140 departments. There are 65 hostels for resident students.   • Calcutta University, Kolkata

Calcutta University is one of the best universities in the country, located in West Bengal, Kolkata. Calcutta University (CU)  is the first multi-disciplinary and western-style institution in Asia. There are 151 colleges and 21 institutes associated with Calcutta University.

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham University is a private university situated in Coimbatore, India. Amrita University is a NAAC accredited A grade, multi-campus, multi-disciplinary teaching and research institution. It has 7 campuses including 16 schools across the states of  Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh.

Jamia Millia Islamia, also known as JMI ( literally means National Muslim University) is located in the capital of India, New Delhi. It was established in 1920  in Aligarh, which later shifted to Delhi in 1925. JMC is certified with an “A” Grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). 

The University consists of nine faculties, including Architecture, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences,  Law, among others. Manipal is one of India’s oldest and leading institutions and has been consistently ranked among the best universities within the country by leading academic and research institutions. It was settled in1953 and Eminence status has been granted institution by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India

The campus at Manipal is spread across 600 acres of land. It is divided into the health sciences campus and the MIT(Manipal Institute of Technology) campus. The campus has a museum, a large library, and an indoor sports complex. Jadavpur University is a public technical university established in 1905 as Bengal Technical Institute and was converted into Jadavpur University in 1955. Jadavpur University has located at Jadavpur in state Kolkata.

Jadavpur University is semi-residential, which at present operates out of two urban campuses: one in Jadavpur (58 acres) and another in Salt Lake (26 acres).

The departments of Jadavpur University are categorized into four faculty councils.

The courses offered by the university are integrated, Post Graduate and doctorate level courses within the stream of Engineering, Management, Science, Education, Computer Applications, and more. All these courses are offered under 12 schools and 41 departments. Admissions to these courses are based on written tests and entrance exams.
